Dr Caragh Morrish, BSc. MBChB MFHom.
20 years as a practicing homeopath
I had always been interested in complementary medicines, hearing first about acupuncture, whilst a medical student. However, opportunities to investigate further did not present themselves until the late eighties, when I was recommended a homeopathy course at the Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital, and after the first day I was hooked! I then undertook further training leading to the MFHom in 1993 (postgraguate qualification in homeopathy accredited by The Faculty of Homeopathy). After some years in practice I was put on the Faculty of Homeopathy’s specialist register.
I practice both in the NHS, doing homeopathy clinics where the patients are referred by their GPs, and in private practice.
Professional Career
I studied medicine at Edinburgh University and right from the start, felt drawn to areas of medicine where people seeking help could be offered plenty of time, and alternatives to conventional drug treatment. I therefore went into occupational medicine, which also offers some preventive work. In addition I worked in Brook Advisory Clinics, which offer young people advice and counselling on sexual health and contraception. Later, I undertook medical assessments for attendance allowance and mobility allowance, which involved visiting people in their homes and helping, through active listening, to present their needs as completely as possible.
Professional Development
For some years I taught on the Glasgow Homeopathic Hopital’s post-graduate homeopathy course. Homeopathy is always an exciting challenge, and it’s incredibly satisfying to see it restoring someone to good health.
I keep abreast of developments in homeopathy by attending seminars by some of homeopathy’s leading edge teachers. I have a regular study group with Kathy Parker RSHom and Mary Gillies MFHom and am a full member of The Faculty of Homeopathy.
